Auckland Diwali Festival One-Day Observer Programme

ATEED is offering a one-day observer programme at the Auckland Diwali Festival for the first time this year.

It complements the skills-building opportunities that ATEED creates around the festival, including two internships for events management students and the volunteer programme.

The one-day observer programme will be held on Sunday, 21 October and is open to anyone who has Indian heritage or a proven interest in Indian culture and who studies, works in or aspires to study or work in event management and believes their studies, work or aspirations would benefit by taking part.

Observers will meet and talk with the festival production team, the stage manager and back of house coordinator, and stall manager; attend a live brief in the on-site operations centre (OSOC); and get an insight into all aspects of the event.

Taking part is free of charge, but participants are responsible for their own travel to and from the festival, parking throughout and any accommodation, if required.

People keen to apply can email Diwali@aucklandnz.com, and tell the team about themselves, their background, studies or work, and how taking part in the observer programme would benefit them. 

Applications close at 5pm on Friday 21 September and applicants will be notified by Friday 28 September 2018.

Pricing Changes for New Industry Qualification

Over the last few days, Skills Active have introduced some qualification pricing changes.  This is great news for NZ Certificate in Entertainment and Events L3, as the qualification registration cost is reducing from $200 + GST to $75 + GST.

As our foundation qualification which provides a platform for further on-job learning, we want to minimise any financial barriers to enrolling into this entry qualification. The qualification, along with the foundation/induction qualification for our other industries, has been reduced in price to recognise that it is not a technical qualification, but rather an introduction to industry.

Ashley Quensell Joins EVANZ Executive

We are pleased to announce that Ash Quensell, General Manager - Events & Venues for Platform 4 Group, has joined the EVANZ Executive as Associate Member Representative.

Ash's background in the events industry spans over 15 years. He has been directly involved at a strategic level in the event service delivery and venue management of many high-profile events, festivals and concerts at entertainment arenas and sporting stadiums in New Zealand, culminating in his current position as General Manager of Events & Venues for Platform 4 Group (P4G).

Ash is a senior advisor on the P4G Board and is also an elected board of trustee member for New Windsor School in Auckland. He has an excellent understanding of the importance of governance and is looking forward to collaboratively contributing to and assisting the EVANZ Executive Committee with designing and implementing initiatives that will benefit EVANZ associate members.

Specialising in major event security and venue security, Ash is very passionate about the New Zealand events industry. Highlights of his career to-date are the RWC 2011 as the Lead Venue Security Manager for 15 Test Matches, closely followed by the British & Irish Lions Series in 2005 and 2017 as a Multi-Venue Security Manager. New General Manager Appointed

Keith Parker and the EVANZ Executive are very pleased to announce that Lynn Robinson, based in Cambridge, has been appointed EVANZ General Manager.

After a huge response to fill the position and interviewing a very high calibre of applicants the EVANZ Executive would like to welcome Lynn to the position of GM of EVANZ.  Lynn will be joining us at the Mid-Year Meeting to meet many of you there so please introduce yourselves.

Lynn will take up her duties starting on the 1st of June, working with Miles through his last month in the same position in the handover process.

On behalf of the Executive I would like to thank Miles for his 15 years of service and we will have the opportunity to thank him at the end of year conference in Auckland.

Bio:

Lynn Robinson (formerly Briggs) has a strong background in events and tourism as well as sales, marketing and management experience across a variety of industries. Starting her career as a professional orchestral musician, Lynn’s love of people and languages led her to sales and eventually business development roles in the tourism industry in New Zealand and Australia, before transitioning to the world of marketing and events. She has worked for a range of businesses in New Zealand and abroad including not-for-profits, start-ups, small businesses and global corporates. Lynn held the role of Hamilton & Waikato Convention Bureau Manager before starting her own marketing business in 2015. Her events experience includes organising and managing conferences, gala dinners, training sessions, concerts and fundraising events as well as roles with large-scale events such as the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and the New Zealand Agricultural Fieldays. She brings to EVANZ a wealth of marketing, funding, events and management experience and is looking forward to meeting our members and partners, seeking out opportunities to grow EVANZ and developing resources and events that add value to membership.

Eden Park Event Scholarships 2018

EVANZ and Eden Park are pleased to announce the Event Scholarships for 2018.

This year an additional scholarship is available with a focus on catering.  If you have staff involved in this area and it would be valuable to experience catering operations at a large event you are welcome to apply.
The 4 day Scholarships from 7 - 10 June will coincide with the All Blacks French test match (Saturday 9 June) .  
3 Scholarships are being offered - 2 people will be accepted for the Event Scholarship and 1 person for the Catering Scholarship.
