Operations Manager - Venues and Events Services
It's an exciting time to be in Invercargill and join a future focused Council.
Waihōpai Invercargill is New Zealand's southernmost city and the heart and hub of Southland. We're known for our lush green spaces like Queens Park, our long summer daylight hours and our local legend Burt Munro. Our city has character, charm and a laidback atmosphere. There's outstanding nature reserves, Ōreti Beach, the Waihōpai River, a lively restaurant scene and a sensible gridded layout with wide streets and a 10-minute drive to work.
Our Invercargill Venues and Events Services team manage not only our fabulous Civic Theatre but also the Scottish Hall and Rugby Park. The Civic Theatre complex provides a quality theatre and associated facilities for hire and is a popular venue for local and regional organisations - and national and international touring companies. The complex has a Category 1 New Zealand Historic Places Trust classification which means the building is of national significance.
We are looking for an Operations Manager to join our busy and passionate team on a permanent full-time basis.
Reporting to the Manager - Business Transition (Venues and Events), you will provide day to day management of the Venues and Event Services team ensuring change and business improvement plans are implemented and monitored. This will include ensuring the business meets performance targets and continues to adapt and meet the needs of customers, clients and patrons.
In this position you will lead the implementation of agreed business improvement initiatives ensuring business processes are well documented and the strategic direction and momentum are maintained. Working collaboratively with staff you will develop audiences and events that strengthen the business's response to changing markets and entertainment consumption behaviours.
To be successful in this position you will hold a tertiary qualification in Business, Venue or Event Management and a minimum of five years in a senior leadership position within a Venues and/or Events focused organisation. Demonstrated experience in contract negotiation, project management experience and leading, encouraging and managing staff is also essential.
In this position you will deal with a variety of people including clients and other ICC team members, therefore your excellent communications skills will also be put to good use. You will be well organised and eager to learn new things. Most importantly you will love working as part of a tight knit team who work together to get the job done, and have a laugh while doing it!
At Invercargill City Council we pride ourselves on our values - positivity, respect, responsibility and above and beyond. Finding the right fit for our team is really important to us and we work hard to provide an environment reflective of these values.
