    The Whanganui District Council is seeking a dynamic and experienced Events Manager to lead the reopening of the iconic Sarjeant Gallery. This is a unique contract role until the end of the year, offering you the chance to make a significant impact on the cultural landscape of Whanganui.

    This is a senior role based at the heart of planning and delivering a series of world-class events that celebrate the rich artistic heritage of the Sarjeant Gallery. We are looking for a seasoned events manager, capable of working collaboratively with our team and enthusiastic about connecting communities through culture.

    You will work closely with the Sarjeant Gallery team, Sarjeant Gallery Trust, Whanganui District Council, Iwi, stakeholders, and suppliers to develop a compelling and cohesive event programme that will captivate and engage a national audience. We will look to you to provide expert advice on the practical implementation of event concepts.

    From there, you'll partner with the communications team to ensure alignment with comms plan timelines and develop detailed event plans, including timelines, costs, and potential revenue opportunities.

    • Proven experience in event management with a strong track record of planning and executing large-scale, high-quality events from start to finish.
    • A natural networker with excellent communication skills.
    • Self-motivated and able to achieve ambitious goals independently.
    • Passionate about art and enthusiastic about creating events that connect community with culture.

    This is an incredible opportunity to lead the reopening of the Sarjeant Gallery and to play a pivotal role in delivering events that will leave a lasting impact on Whanganui's cultural scene.

    If you are ready to bring your expertise and passion for event management to this exciting project, we would love to hear from you. This is a contract role, commencing immediately and running through to the end of the year. Hours are flexible however you must be available full time in the weeks prior to launch. We will consider applicants from anywhere in New Zealand as long as you demonstrate the ability to be onsite as required, especially in the lead up and duration of the event week.
