    Picture this: nine indoor courts and an Olympic-sized lane pool alive with recreation & sport events, complemented by programmes and leisure activities, heart-pounding hydroslides and dive boards, an aquatic sensory experience, plus an incredible water adventure playground and splash deck for our tamariki, all serving the needs of our diverse community.

    This amazing facility will open in late 2025 and complement the Council network of facilities across Ōtautahi including the Recreation and Sport Centres: Graham Condon, Jellie Park, Matatiki, Pioneer, Taiora QEII, Te Pou Toetoe, and Cowles Stadium.

    We are now looking for an experienced Event Planning Advisor, with a background in supporting and guiding event owners and operators to deliver exceptional events within the Recreation, Sports & Events Unit.

    About the role | Ko te mahi nei

    Significantly contribute to our vision of being the preferred city, venue and event hosting partner of choice for the New Zealand sporting whanau (players, officials, organisations and spectators).

    Key responsibilities will include…

    • Working alongside event owners and RSE Staff to support the delivery of exceptional events for their participants, officials and spectators - it's your job to make it easy;
    • Liaising across teams to ensure staff and other facility users are aware of and excited to have high calibre events in our facilities;
    • Offering best practice advice regarding Event Planning, including Customer Flow and Access Management to ensure safe & seamless event delivery;
    • Providing expertise with event bidding when required.

    About you | Ko Koe Tēnei

    • You will have previous experience in Event Planning at complex facilities - preferably in the recreation and sport industry;
    • You will be well versed in the event eco system and bring those learnings to Ōtautahi;
    • Ideally, you'll have practical knowledge of customer flow and traffic management to ensure solid plans are established with event owners;
    • Your exceptional customer service will deliver a warm and friendly face of the Recreation, Sport and Event Unit at the Christchurch City Council;
    • You will have strong interpersonal skills to ensure relationships established and maintained are mutually beneficial;
    • You will be meticulous in your planning & process driven - from event run sheets through to event evaluations.

    • Hours of work: Permanent, 40 hours per week. Your work schedule will be flexible to include weekends and/or outside of standard hours depending on event requirements.
